Miami Vice on the wrist

The brand Ebel was the saviour of the Zenith El Primero movement. The movement went out of production during the quartz crisis and all equipment in the workshop was to be sold. The workshop chef decided to take the equipment away and store it, against the will of his bosses. His strong believe in the future of mechanical watchmaking led him to these actions. He stored it on the top floor of the Zenith building behind a secret wall. Years later when Pierre Alain Blum was looking for a movement for his Ebel chronograph, he stumbled upon a large number of unfinished El Primero movements, which he rebranded as the caliber 134. Later when Rolex was looking for a suitable movement to revive the daytona, they in turn contacted Pierre Alain Blum. Which led to the Zenith company, now again under swiss ownership, producing the El Primero for Rolex. The first Rolex Daytonas with this movement were launched in 1988.

In our opinion the Ebel 1911 is one of the best neo vintage chronographs out there. The build and finishing quality is absolutely incredible. In addition the design is very unique and instantly recognizable. In addition it is an incredible value proposition for a full gold chronograph. This iconic watch was used in different variations in the hit series Miami Vice as well as the Sopranos. This example has never been polished and has a very nice patina to the gold. We have the same model with a white dial currently available.
