This is the original first production edition of the Cartier Basculante in yellow gold from 1991. Instantly recognizable as it has the sapphire on the bottom of the case as opposed to the top on all later models. In addition the proportions are more elegant than the later versions, showing a slightly slimmer case with stronger resemblance to the 1930’s examples. The movement on this early version is also different from later production models. The Cartier Basculante in yellow gold from 1991 runs on a Piaget 4P movement which would in later production be replaced by a lower quality eta based movement. The dial is spotless and has a nice subtle guilloche pattern that gives the dial an attractive liveliness. This watch was still produced in France and bears the incredibly beautiful eagle hallmarks on the unpolished case back. We have had a strap custom made in Italy to fit the straps that would have originally been on the Basculante in the 1930’s. It comes on its original and beautiful deployment clasp. The movement has recently been serviced by Cartier and the watch comes with its original box. If you would like to know more, please do not hesitate to contact us.
